This is definitely not your usual getaway car. But having spent one week behind the wheel of a 1962 Morris Minor 1000 Convertible makes me believe that it´s the perfect weapon to destroy the monotony of everyday life. The flimsy classic works brilliantly on narrow roads between Cornwall and Somerset – although “brilliant“ is far from “correct”.

Unbalanced brakes, lousy shifting, a leaky hood and chattering noises from pretty much everywhere could be mistaken as troublesome issues. But they are not! It´s all part of a distinct character you cannot ignore. So, this is my top tip: Just get yourself one of these wonderful jalopies and leave the daily routine behind. It will blow you away.

I wrote a huge travel report about the Morris for British Classics magazine. But you can also enjoy an online summary on Classic Trader.
