“Since the first running of LEJOG in 1993, the event has become an enigma as well as one of the most demanding regularity rallies around.” This somehow vague quote from organizer Hero is a pure and somewhat British understatement – considering the high standards of competitors (and the number of DNFs).
Obviously, LEJOG (“Land´s End to John O´Groats”) is not the usual classic car rally for touristic champagne nibblers. It´s anything but! You better call it the toughest challenge that man and machine can face: Three days and nights over narrow roads, all over Britain. Hardly any sleep, most probably icy tracks and stormy snow. Surprising tasks, stressful navigation. Plus plenty of hedges and stone walls to avoid in classic cars aged 30 years or older.
Following the pack for a photo report was a great chance, and a huge honor as well. My expectations were high – and LEJOG excelled them by miles. 1.500, to be precise!
